Ankylosaurus - K-Pg Asteroid impact
New illustration made for the press release of the new paper on end-Cretaceous mass extinction by Alessandro Chiarenza & colleagues. To avoid the typical roaring tyrannosaur scene, we chose an Ankylosaurus... seemingly unconcerned by the incoming catastrophe, this dinosaur has never yet found a match for its thick armor. This is also a tribute to the great Piero Angela, Italian science communicator whose 1993 documentary “Il Pianeta dei Dinosauri” (an inspiration during our childhood, both for me and Alessandro) used this dinosaur witnessing the impact in his masterly series of documentary on palaeontology.
